Joseph Erba is a social scientist who focuses on participant-based research. His qualitative projects explore how people perceive their various experiences, while his quantitative projects examine how people react to information. Throughout his 10+ years of research, he has worked with diverse populations. He has received research awards for his collaborative projects investigating how to increase participation in cancer clinical trials among rural and low-income cancer patients, how to enhance technology adoption for older African Americans, and how first-generation, U.S.-born Latino students make sense of media representations about Latina/os. In the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Erba teaches undergraduate and graduate research methods courses, as well as other courses pertaining to various aspects of digital marketing communications, advertising and public relations.
