Gabriella Aguilar

Gabriella Aguilar is a sophomore in majoring in Film and Media Studies with a minor in journalism. She comes from Overland Park, Kansas. She has been involved with Good Evening KU for two years and is a member of Gamma Phi Beta, where she is the fidelity chair and has served on the standards committee. Last summer, she interned at Liquid 9, a production company in Kansas City.

I was involved in my high school’s broadcast class and TV show and it led me to realize what I wanted to do in college. I loved creating broadcast packages as well as being on air. It’s so great to have the opportunity to continue doing these things through Media Crossroads and the J-school.

When I came to KU I wish I knew how many opportunities were available to me as a freshman. You can get involved in so many activities on campus as soon as you get to KU, you don’t have to wait until your later years of college.

As a sophomore, I am not completely sure what I want to do with my future, but I have 2 more years to figure it out. I know I want to do something in video or broadcast production and the Film and Journalism schools have helped me to grow my skills and push me to try news things.

When I graduate I will always remember the people at KU. The professors, classmates, and friends I’ve met here will have an impact on me for life and I hope to stay in contact with them after my time at KU.

Don’t be afraid to get involved early. There are so many opportunities in the J-school, start early so you can make the most of your KU experience.

When I think of the J-school, I think of a place where I’m not afraid to be myself. I enjoy every class I take and feel appreciated by my professors and classmates. I feel I can put myself out there and try new things without judgement.

It makes me hopeful to see so many alumni go on to do great things after graduating from KU. It inspires me to continue to work hard and challenge myself in my studies to be able to achieve the same success after college.

When I graduate I hope to have a job in video production. I would love to work for a TV station or production company.

I chose to be a part of the J-school because I wanted to continue my passion for broadcast journalism. I know I’ve made a good choice because I have had so much fun on Good Evening KU. I hope to continue to get more involved in Media Crossroads in my next couple years at KU.

What I think people should know about the J-school is that everyone is so supportive and wants you to succeed. They challenge you and give you the resources you need to learn and be prepared for your future.
