Cyber Stalking can save lives!

Last week actress Demi Moore saved a woman's life.  How did she rescue this woman you ask??? With Twitter.

Last Thursday, Moore received a frightening tweet from a woman named "sandieguy."  She said, "I'm just wondering if anyone cares that I'm gonna kill myself now." Her previous posts showed she was contemplating suicide.  The girl then wrote again, "Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn't waste time."

Moore replied immediately saying, "hope you are joking." The exchange prompted a California citizen to call 911.  Police used a tracking device to find the woman and brought her into a hospital for evaluation.

In the last round of blogs many of my peers put Twitter down, but I'm here to defend it.  Not only is Twitter a great way to get information fast, but it can save lives as well, can it get much better?

I joined Twitter because one of my professors urged me to do so and was a little skeptical at first.  I describe Twitter to be much like Facebook Status updates.  Short, sweet and to the point.  I not only follow some of my favorite actors, I also follow local news stations, national news networks, sports news, and even our president.  Because of Twitter I don't even go to news websites anymore.  Since I follow CNN, when I log into my homepage, I see CNN headlines and I simply click on the url attached to the headline that I want to read.  For me its all my favorite news sources on one page and that is the most conveinent way to view them.

This is what the page view looks like when you log on:

While some may find Twitter creepy, I think they need to embrace it.  Many news sources are on the band wagon and I think Twitter will only grow with popularity.  So far, I've only heard good things, and until someone gives me a reason not to like Twitter, I will continue to Tweet!

And maybe save a life or two while I'm doing it.

The Bachelor Finale....That's right...I'm going there.

I'm going there.  I watch the Bachelor every Monday and was quite shocked by the finale last week.  I've had some time to think about most aspects about it and decided that I would like to share my opinion and why I think ABC went too far.  If you missed what happened on the finale and the very much anticipated after the rose ceremony here it is.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCd2DhvTlVU

Jason proposed to Melissa on the finale and minutes later he dumped her on national television and then asked the runner up for a second chance.  Now Jason and Molly are officially together and she is moving to Seattle to live with him.  So did Jason go to far?  I think both he and ABC did.  Jason should not have proposed to Melissa in the end.  It's not like that hasn't happened before.  I also think ABC should have announced Jason and Melissa breaking up in another way.  I think a lot of Bachelor fans think the after the rose special went to far.  I usually think that ABC runs good programs and has integrity, but they totally lost touch of people's feelings when they aired the public breakup.

Message boards were filled with viewer comments.  Here is an example of one.

That's the difference between children & adults. Children do 'what feels good' at the time--and that often gets them into trouble because they don't think of consequence. Jason seems to be an overgrown child. Ty will soon surpass his dad's maturity level, it won't take too long....

So did Jason go to far, or do you think he just did all of this because of his contract with ABC?  Was this enough to make viewers stop watching the Bachelor?  How much further will ABC go for ratings?

If anything I think people will turn in to see Jillian, the new bachelorette, since she was burned by Jason as well.

How to become Famous...

What does it take to become famous these days?  Is it real talent or skill?  Or is it based on popularity.  I'm still trying to decide for myself, but here is an example of a normal person who is on the brink to fame.

Two days ago I walked into my roommate's room to find her hysterically laughing as she was watching something on her computer.  I assumed it was some funny blooper on youtube, as that is what she usually watches.  Instead I heard a song coming from her laptop.  It was a rather obscene song though.  She was crying she was laughing so hard.  I walked over and sat down and watched with her.  She was watching a young man who had to be about 18 singing a song he had written.  His name is Bo Burnham.  I hadn't heard of him before, but I was suddenly interested in his matter of fact songs

Here are the lyrics from one of his most famous songs Bo Fo Show:

Walkin' my poodles, man it never gets old
with my dogs on my leash i got bitches on the hold,
a first aids kit? thats a rhesus monkey,
i bust more nuts than a pistachio junkie!
get more ass than a giant donkey stable,
got more lines than whitney houston's coffee table,
i get more head than grammar school lice,
i'm like a walkin glacier i'm so decked out with ice.

Did you poop a virgin? cause that shit is tight.
jack ain't black, barry ain't white.
i do drugs in the bedroom, lie on ur back
cause i got the pipe and you got the crack.
though i'm sexually straight, you're bound to find,
i'm mentally gay, cause i'll blow your mind.
the parents be snickerin "he shouldnt have written it"
but i'm constipated, couldnt give a shit.

chorus:
My name is bo fo sho,
a born bostonian,
aryan librarian at the WORDsmithsonian
the rap is scattered, it hides its ingenuity,
i gave it this little part to give it continuity.

As you can see his lyrics are pretty entertaining.  Some find them funny, like my roommate, and others find it offensive, like some of my other roommates.  Whatever you may think of this kid, he is on his way to fame and maybe even fortune.  He already has a tour for campuses across the United States as well as a record that is already out.  He started out releasing his music on Youtube and now has already had his 15 minutes of fame. My roommate told all 6 of my other roommates, who then told their friends, who then told their friends.  It became a viral video.  So if you dont know him, you do now.

Is this the way to become famous?  Look at some other examples.  Ellen Degeneres always shows youtube clips on her shows and in most cases invites them to her show.  She is spreading the word to a bigger audience who then takes notice to these original no namers.  Or what about the kids from Laguna Beach?  It was a reality show, and now those young adults are all over entertainment magazines and other tv shows.  Stephen from Laguna Beach is now on a major sitcom One Tree Hill.  Whether Stephen actually has talent is not for me to judge, but for the other characters on Laguna, they are now famous for doing nothing.

My question is this..... Will these new "famous" people stick around, or are they simply in the spot light for name and are destined to be " one hit wonders"?  Sports athletes, actors, and newscasters remain in the spotlight because of their talent, so will these new ones do the same?  And if so, I can see the headline of the next book for dummies....

How to become famous for dummies.... post a video on youtube or join a reality show.  Spread the word..... then just wait.
