What is it that makes other people's personal lives so interesting? Twitter has grown abundantly and taken off in many odd directions. From Lance Armstrong Twittering on his way in to surgery, to people on jury duty Twittering the outcome of court cases, Twitter is taking the boundary between public and private lives to a whole new level.
These days, it seems that all information that would previously be considered "private", is now something the whole world can see. Do people not have issues of their own to deal with? Twitter allows the stalkers of the world to legally stalk, or "follow" whoever they desire. When I googled, "Twitter followers," a link for an article titled, "How to Get More Twitter Followers" came up. It was at this point that I realized all people craving their 15 minutes of fame were going to be competing to make the list of people with the most Twitter followers. I would argue that Twitter is completely dumb because who really cares that you're "off to the grocery store," or "wearing your new red shoes"?! The media has begged to differ after the Demi Moore fan scandal.

Last week, Demi received a startling message from a fan saying, "gbye ... gonna kill myself now." Because Demi posted back, "Hope you are joking," other followers decided to take action and contact the police department. Therefore, a suicide was "prevented" through Twitter. Because people are posting all kinds of information, such as the potential suicide, who knows what else can be discovered, or prevented through this social media network.
There's always going to be a new way for people to communicate. Whether you're a famous actor, athlete, or just a "regular" person, Twitter can bring people together and allow you to share whatever information you desire. Because of Twitters dedicated fans, it's here to stay... at least until they discover something even more invasive!

I feel that twitter is just another site for people trying to find as many 'friends' as they can. I personally don't care if you're wearing your new red shoes, especially if I don't really know you. I think this whole twittering thing could lead to more stalkers. If you update every time you do something or go somewhere someone might be there to follow you. I think that it's cool for news sites and stuff to use because you can get all your news in one spot. But I am just not into twitter and don't feel like I ever will be. I don't people to know what I am doing and I don't want to know what they are doing. I feel like this is crossing the boundary, what are you supposed to talk to your friends about. If you start to tell a story they may be like 'oh yeah I saw it on your twitter' then there's silence. I just don't like it.
One thing that is important about twitter is that you can control who sees your posts, and if you don't want anyone to--don't write anything. So in the argument of stalkers I think it is a definite possibility when people put information up about where they are going. However, if you only twitter friends this is no different than a social networking site. But really most people do not use the block "status updates." I choose to keep my status updates private so I can control who sees my information----or at least that is what twitter promises for privacy control.
Twitter is certainly getting a lot of attention! I think it has almost created a dangerous way for people to hack into other's personal lives. What do I care that a singer is nervous before going on stage or that a celebrity is going into surgery. People feel, think and see things everyday, but wouldn't our time be better spent out and about talking to people rather that sitting at our computers typing our moment to moment thoughts and ideas for the whole word to read?
So are you for Twitter or against it? Or just for it in certain cases and against it in others?
You say it is "completely dumb", which tells me you are against its premise, that you don't think it's beneficial in any way. But then you mention the Demi Moore case, which seemed to be beneficial. Then you say it's "invasive" - I'm guessing you're not on Facebook, or are you?
Hey I've been averse to Facebook and Twitter forever; I don't care about the meaningless chit-chat either. But I at least understand why it exists and how it can help socially, professionally, etc. I certainly would not say that it is completely dumb.
And I have issues with your use of the phrase "legally stalk". Stalking is unwanted contact between a person and his/her victim, which directly or indirectly communicates a threat. Are you saying that's what Twitter is?
