Call ID on TV

As if we didn't have enough space to sell advertisements on TV, the cable industry has found another one. Introducing the technology last November, Cablevision has reported that they have delivered over 1 billion messages via the Cable Caller ID system, according to the New York Post article on April 10. Although this "free" service may seem like it is serving the community, I feel that they are introducing this free service so that customers will get comfortable with it, and then they will precede to drench the notifications in advertisements for all sorts of products. Maybe this will turn into the industry actually taking the census information from the incoming number and slapping it with an appropriate ad for the receiver. So the next time that grandma calls you get advertisement for depends in holiday gift wrap.
