Drug Bust at SDSU

| | Comments (3)

At San Diego State University, a drug bust was made at six fraternities. These fraternities have been suspended from campus and three fraternity members were put into jail. All the time you hear about the increasing drug use throughout the greek system. In college, this is a time when more people start experimenting with drugs and some even become addicted. At SDSU, they were drug dealers and they were in their own drug circle. Two kilograms of cocaine, 350 Ecstasy pills, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, hashish oil, methamphetamine, prescription drugs, several guns and at least $60,000 in cash were confiscated by authorities. What are your views on the usage of drugs on college campuses? We are taught as little kids that we should say no to drugs, but how come students are still taking drugs? For all those weird news enthusiast, here is a story for you. A Florida man working for DRS Technologies was trapped in a pressing machine that looks like an elevator. He was all alone and was unable to reach his cellphone because his arms were stuck. So, what he did was jiggle his cellphone out of his belt, kicked off a shoe and was able to dial 911 by using his toe. What a talent! Rescuers were able to reach him and bring him to a local hospital. So, the next time you are calling someone try dialing with your toes.

Ashlee Simpson too skinny to be pregant?

| | Comments (2)

In recent tabloids there has been a swarm of stories about Simpson's secretive pregnancy. How her father views it because of their religion and Ashlee's relationship with her fiancé, Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. Simpson went on Ellen DeGeneres show to talk about her upcoming album. Oh no, that another one! Through out the whole interview, Ellen was trying to get Ashlee to tell the world she is pregnant. Ms. Simpson didn't like that and in her defense, she was like look at my body I'm not eating everything in site. Which indicates look I'm skinny so I'm not pregnant. More and more in the celebrity world, they are trying to covering up their pregnancies to keep it private. Unfortunately, the tabloids eat it up along with the public, when they hear their favorite star is expecting.
When in this world did we come to a point where we need to know everything about everyone? People need privacy and sometimes certain information people don't want to leak out about them. No one likes the gossip that goes through the grapevine.
I think the best thing Ashlee Simpson can do is just say yes if she is pregnant or not. Eventually is she is expecting, she will soon be showing and the rumor will be true.

Toddler blown into Lake Michigan

| | Comments (2)

On a cold bluster day in Michigan, a toddler was blown into the frigid Lake Michigan strapped into his stroller. His grandfather jumped into the water to save him. Rescue workers pulled out the child from the water and rushed him over to the hospital. Winds were approximately 20 to 30 mph that day. The toddler and his grandfather are in critical condition. The question that still puzzles me is how did the toddler get tossed into the lake, while still in the stroller?
These strollers a very safe and are an easy transportaion choice for a young child. I know it has to do something with the weight for it to be blown away, but strollers are heavy. How could it happen?

Police used tear gas at a college party

| | Comments (1)

On a party that was broken up, Sunday morning at Michigan State University, police used tear gas to break up a fight. Police officers claimed that over 3,000 people attended the party Cedar Fest. This was an annual party, at the university, that people were trying to revive. It was a tradition for East Lansing. Friday night before the party, students were warned not to go to the party because of past events of the party getting out of control. With the crowd control at the party besides tear-gassing the attendees, they also arrested 52 people and 48 people were ticketed. At 1 am, the crowd at the party became rowdy and officers warned people to leave the party. At 2 am, this is when tear gas was dispensed into the crowd. There were no reported injuries during this event. I feel these days; police officers are using their weapons to an extreme. I know that crowd control is an issue and we don't want any injuries to happen, but don't use tear gas. This gas could be harmful to some people and legal actions could be placed onto the officers. Last year, an officer tazered a college student at a seminar held on his campus and it caused uproar of anger. There need to be other alternatives officers can use to stop a crazy person. This issue needs to be address in same way so instances like this won't happen again. In Pennsylvania, a judge sentenced three hispanics to learn English or go to jail. The men were on trail for robbery. Right now they are on parole and during this time they have to learn English, get their GED and a full-time job. If they don't follow these roles they would receive four to twenty four months in jail. I feel this decision the judge is making is very mean and unconstitutional. I do agree when you do speak to non english speakers, who live in this country, it is annoying that they still don't know the simple words of the language. They expect us to know their language and cater to them. What the judge is doing is to make a point about language barriers, but he took it too far. Issuing a jail sentence shouldn't be the option. I know that they committed a crime and need to be punished but don't force them to go to jail. Try community service as an option. Maybe in their minds learning English is punishment enough and they might actually want to go to jail, so they won't have to learn English.
