70 middle-schoolers and 20 chaperones went to the Nation's capital for an educational trip in April. Well, this trip turned out to be a little more educational than expected. A month later 8 of the students have been expelled for having sex while on the field trip. One of them includes an 8th grader that claimed the chaperones were asleep and 5 girls came to his room he shared with 4 other boys. One of the boys' moms is upset about the punishment, she thinks that her son should've been suspended for 5 days then been able to return rather than expelled. Are you kidding me? Her son is in 8th grade and has no business having sex. If something happend like this at the school I went to in 8th grade there would be no question about being expelled. And what are these kids doing having sex at this age anyway? To view the video: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/05/16/dnt.middle.school.sex.wis

Escaping Polygamy

| | Comments (0)

The other day while watching Oprah I was shocked at what I learned watching the episode on the polygamist community. There are several communities around the U.S. and they came to be discovered from a phone call of a 16 year old girl claiming her 50 year old husband was abusing her. Right away officals went to the scene and discovered an entire community of marriages like this. Girls as young as 14 were married and pregnant. On Oprah's show there was a guest by the name os Elissa that explained she use to be part of the community when she was young. By the age of 14 the community made her marry her first cousin, Allen, whom was 19. Elissa explained that she knew nothing about sex or the anatomy of the human body, so she was extremely uncomfortable with sex. Speaking about sex outside of the marriage was forbidden, so she wasn't able to talk to anyone about her concerns with marrying someone so close in blood. But Elissa says there is no concern about close marriages producing children with birth defects because the marriages are considered arranged by the prophet and God's will. "They look at it as a child who was so special he had to come to earth," Elissa says. I found all of this to be appauling. Eventually Elissa escaped the community, but there are many others who aren't as brave. I just don't understand how people actually buy into all of that. They just must of been brainwashed completely. Why would anyone want to live in a community where they don't even get a legitmate education, are intermarrying and no longer welcome if they cut their hair? People are just getting crazier and crazier.

I Thee Wed.. In A Hospital?

| | Comments (0)

David Lowery, a terminal patient that was just told a few days ago that he is nearing death. So what does he do? Get married! The hospital gift shop sent flowers while the cafeteria baked the cake. The video shows Lowery's fiance' getting ready and talking about how she got her wedding dress at Target. Hmm some dream wedding? I personally don't know why you would get married if you only have a few more months to live. It would just be too hard. The whole wedding seemed really spur of the moment and like it didn't even matter. Any thoughts? If you want to view the video you can copy/paste the link below:

Prisoner Penpal?

| | Comments (2)

Earlier tonight a girl in my sorority shared with me that she checked her mailbox and had an interesting letter waiting for her from the nearby prison. Apparently an inmate by the name of Sean Phillips got her name and address and randomly wrote her a letter requesting she be his penpal. My friend has absolutely no idea who he is, but he claims that prison isn't all big guys with tattoos that rape each other. Phillips went on to describe himself and how he got into prison. He said he was once engaged but that fell through, and his sister is too busy to write him so he wanted a penpal because he is lonely. I found this to be completely creepy, but he claims that he will tell her everything and include a picture of himself if she writes him back. After researching prisoners and letters I discovered that letters do make a difference, and often result in shorter prison terms. Although I agree that letters are probably therapeutic, I don't think it's a safe idea to write this guy back. If it were me, I wouldn't be an inmates penpal unless I knew them. I feel like it could be an endangerment whenever they are released. But I do wonder how he got her information? Hmm...

Provocative Photoshoot Gives Miley Cyrus Bad Press

| | Comments (1)

After posing seductively for Vanity Fair, Miley Cyrus has been experiencing a tornado of negative publicity. The 15 year old Disney star took what appears to be topless photos with a bed sheet for coverage. I have to admit that I can't believe her parents/manager would allow her to do this. There has been an obvious trend in Hollywood that child stars who are exposed at young ages always turn into a trainwreck. I.e. Lindsay Lohan, Brittany Spears, Tatum O'Neill, and Drew Barry Moore. Time and time again young stars are used then thrown away. Last Saturday Miley perfomed at Disney World and didn't mention anything about the photoshoot. She avoided going to a Red Carpet event where she most likely would of had to face reporters asking questions about the Vanity Fair photos. I realize sex sells, but 15 is ridiculous. If they don't want her snorting coke and drinking regularly by the age of 17, her parents ought to step in and let her do things which are age appropriate.
