American Idol...Again...

| | Comments (3)

As you may know, on Tuesday night Paula Abdul messed up while judging a contestant on American Idol. She mistakenly commented on the contestants previous song, however the contestant hadn't sung a previous song. This lead to a huge uproar among American Idol fans saying that Paula is on drugs, or she seems to be drunk during the show. To make things a little more interesting, host Ryan Seacrest announced to the audience that it was an honest mistake and any rumors about Paula are completely false.

I don't know about anyone else, but I really think this is pathetic. The show seems to provide the same old uproar each week. The best part of the entire show is the beginning of the show's series when we see the ‘crazy' people sing. Even in previous studies the audience ratings for the show are constantly dropping. I think it's about time to pull it off the air. I haven't heard one person talk about how spectacular a specific singer is this season. All the attention is turned to the judges and the host.

Super Model's Income

In a recent story written by Forbes Magazine, Gisele Bundchen, a Brizilian supermodel is earning the highest yearly income ever recorded for a model. Bundchen is currently pulling in 35 million dollars a year. However, this income does not just come from her modeling career, but also her own shoe apparel. She has branded herself to be at the top of the list. She is making well over Hedi Klum, the famous Victoria Secret model. Bundchen is just 27 and dating quarterback Tom Brady, but don't let this alter your views, Bundchen is making her own name for herself rather than living off Brady's.

I think this is absolutely amazing that a model can bring in 35 million dollars a year. This shows that our nation is becoming completely obsessed with looks. Everyone wants to look like Bundchen because she is absolutely gorgeous. Retailers understand this and are willing to pay her just about anything to have her face on their advertisements. The sad truth about all of this is that there is only one Bundchen out there. So why do we have the standard of thinking Bundchen is the perfect one?

NFL Draft

Keeping in mind that I can be associated as a typical guy when it comes to sports, I can't help to pass up a conversation about the NFL draft over the weekend. I specifically remember my girlfriend asking me why I enjoy watching college players get up and hold a jersey in front of them while they just smile. I tried answering her in a couple different ways, but I realized that I really didn't have a good answer. It came down to trying to imagine myself walking up on a stage and signing a multimillion-dollar paycheck. I guess I just find it really interesting that these players who are entering the sports entertainment world are no different from us. They are the same age and they are probably going through the same stressful events in their lives as us. Obviously no one in our class is going through something like they are, but I just thought it was interesting to think how similar we are to these now multimillion dollar college students who have just a few more weeks of school.

Napping

| | Comments (2)

In an article from the Washington Post today it was released that scientists believe that taking naps in the middle of the day is no longer seen as helpful for babies, but it is helpful for adults too. These sleep scientists say that our little naps during the day actually give us extra brain food, especially if we have been working 40 hour weeks and or keeping busy with other activities like school. However, these scientists are not telling us to take long naps but we should think about taking naps for about 45 minutes. In some studies they have found that when you take a nap after looking over information, a nap will help you better remember.

As for my personal opinion I can't speak against taking naps since I actually just woke up from one just a little over an hour ago. I think many people look at naps to be a bad thing, but when you know your going to be up late or you have just had a really long day, I think it is okay to take a 45-minute nap just to rejuvenate yourself.

Spears in the news again...

| | Comments (3)

Once again we find Britney Spears in the news. Late Saturday night she was driving a new 2008 Mercedes Benz on the highway and crashed into another vehicle. Police reported that no one was injured and there was no sign of car damage to either vehicle. Although this accident was very minor I still think it is pathetic that we see any type of news possible about Spears. The accident is no more than running a shopping cart into a car and it is all over the news. I found this headline on the front page of CNN.com. It is almost frustrating how much we as the media dig into the lives of the stars we love.

It's obvious that Spears is doing a lot better than she was previously, but it is almost like we have to dig up any type of information about her to try to convey that she is still this messed up pop star that she has been in the past few years. I know she is in the public eye, but I people really need to get on with their own life and stop paying attention the lives of celebrities.

Tiger Woods

The golfer who brought so much attention to the game finds him self in fifth place going into the final round at the 2008 Masters in Augusta, Georgia. It would be nearly a miracle if he could make a come back to win today and earn another green jacket. Tiger has been a crucial sports figure in so many teenagers' lives. In my opinion he started a dramatic change in the world of golf today. I remember so many teens wanting to be basketball players, or football players when they were younger. Once an athlete such as Tiger comes along, so many teens want everything that that Tiger has accomplished. What other athlete has achieved so much success on the course and off the course money wise than Tiger Woods.

I think he plays a crucial role in so many young teenagers lives today. There is not one individual that puts on a Nike baseball cap and doesn't think about how Tiger Woods is truly an inspiration. If Tiger can pull off this miracle win today he will once again prove to so many individuals that you can do anything you put your mind into.

Octopuses Acting as Humans

| | Comments (0)

I found and interesting case on two octopuses that were almost acting as if they were teenagers. The octopuses were holding hands and seen "flirting" with one another. Now obviously octopuses have the same reproductive thoughts as other animals and even humans, but in this specific case a male octopus was reaching for the female with a tentacle out. I think this is pretty comical because the male is almost asking the female for a date. The scientist says that if the female rejects you the male moves on and will actually hand pick another female that has characteristics it is looking for such as larger female that can produce a large load of eggs.

It seems to me that this new knowledge reenacts the everyday lives of teenagers. I think we have underestimated the knowledge of these creatures just because of the way they look, but it is interesting how there characters are no different than what I might see at a high school or even on campus.

3rd Graders Plan Attack on Teacher

| | Comments (5)

After reading the news earlier today I found and interesting article about kids from and elementary school that brought weapons to class and planned to attack their teacher. The weapons included "a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape and other items for the job and assigning children tasks including covering the windows and cleaning up afterward." After the police looked into the case the kids said that they were upset because a few days prior the teacher had yelled at a student for standing on a chair.

I don't know what other people think about this situation, but I think this is absolutely ridiculous. I know when I was that young I never even thought about hurting a teacher let alone planning an entire attack on the teacher. Now maybe this was because I was most of the time the good quiet student when I was in elementary school, but what child learns that it is okay to harass and adult. In my personal opinion parents need to do a better job when raising their children, and this case certainly proves that.
