Will KU get on the bandwagon?
Recently a handful of universities have been allowing members of the opposite sex to share dorm rooms. At first it is kind of shocking, but when you think about it there is some sense to it.
I find it interesting that in the 50s, most dorms were off limits to members of the opposite sex. Then came the 70s where dorms became scandalously coed and now a step even further- coed rooms.
This came as a result of those wanting to live with good friends and people students felt comfortable living with. This also accommodates some homosexuals who feel uncomfortable living with those of the same sex. Either the way, some universities find that finding someone compatible to live with is difficult, and sex should not have to be a determining factor.
However there is some cases known as "roomcest", in which couples reside together. Clearly this is up to each individual couple, but I personally don't find it to be the brightest idea.
I don't know if I would feel comfortable sharing a room with someone of the opposite sex, but college is a time to explore and learn valuable life lessons. Perhaps, this is the way of the future which could produce positive results such as less gender discrimination in the work place. Who knows? Any thoughts?

While perusing facebook, I came across an advertisement for quite an interesting product.
The product is called Frutels. It is an acne treatment in candy form. I thought "WOW" being a teenager is actually getting better by the second.
It claims to clear your skin from the inside out by infusing your body with nutrients that prevent acne. This technology is different to its competitors as it treats your whole body with natural ingredients, instead of just one's face using lab made drugs.
I think its worth some attention.

Recently I found an article on CNN.com that stated what a pregnant woman eats can influence the gender of her baby.
Research conducted among 740 woman during their first time pregnancies at British Universities, revealed that there are certain links between diet and gender.
The studies found that higher caloric intake prior to conception increases chances of conceiving a boy while those who stick to restricted diets increase chances of conceiving a girl.
They found a strong relation between eating bananas and conceiving males, but believe it has to do with potassium levels.
The research also disproved that drinking an abundance of milk can increase chances of having a girl.
Right now I don't plan on having a baby for a while, but in the future I may take this research into consideration.
Im as ecstatic as the next person about winning the National Championship. In fact, I just spent $200 on sweatshirts and t's as future reminder of the past event.
But lets take a moment to think about what has occurred. When we (I guess we didn't play, but the basketball team) won the championship, there were 40,000 people on Mass street. Everyone was happy to give hugs, hi-fives and some even chose to show some nudity. It didn't matter if you really didn't know someone because that night everyone was part of a community.
The happiness is still visible and seems as if are some are still on cloud 9.
But my question is, why is it that a basketball GAME can make people feel this way?
There are so many other more important issues that a community should gather for.
For example, the war. Or perhaps a AIDS walk or some other charitable event.
I am not pointing fingers or blaming anyone because I too acted in the same exact way. However I am just wondering what is that makes it so.
Comments anyone?

I recently found an article that stated that a revised CPR method can help save many more. Luckily this is very fortunate for us, because according to the American Heart Association cardiac arrest is responsible for over 400,000 deaths each year in the United States.
The fact is, if a persons heart stops pumping blood through their body, and one isn't in a hospital there is a 2 percent chance of survival.
However, a newly discovered regimen by paramedics has tripled the success rate.
(Incredible, I know!)
This new method was developed at the University of Arizona's Sarver Heart Center under Dr.Ewy.
Ewy explains that one's body has enough oxygen to feed the brain for several minutes without any additional air being added by rescue breaths or inserting a breathing tube.
Instead paramedics are now encouraged to alternate a compressing the chest 200 times with a shock from a defibrillator.
So if you are in the situation, take charge and compress someone's chest until professional help arrives.
Thank God for medical research!

I came across an article in the Dallas Morning News during spring break. In fact, my dad put it in front of my face. The article, "Raunch veiled as confidence", described the preparation and actual activity that many spring breaks have to offer.
The columnist began by describing how many college age women prepare by starving themselves, make frequent visits to the cancer booth (I mean tanning booth) and spend a ton of money at body wax salons.
Once these women arrive at their destination, they immediately begin binge drinking. After they feel sufficiently intoxicated, they enter themselves in wet t-shirt contests and other silly activities that seem to exploit women.
The columnist found that a majority of these women found confidence by participating and receiving plenty of attention from equally as intoxicated men.
Ultimately through ethnographic research the columnist found that these girls felt that their sexuality and appeal what was made them successful and worthy.
Unfortunately, it is not only spring break, where girls act and feel like this. It is all the time, but for some reason spring break is put under a microscope.
I found it embarrassing to tell my dad that this stuff does really occur.
You would think in this day and age where woman have more equality they would pride themselves on more respectable things.
