For those of you who watched the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, did the end of that race just make you feel sick to your stomach? Okay, so Big Brown, the favorite, made winning the race look easy, but the big surprise of the race was the filly(female horse), Eight Belles. The only Filly in the race, Eight Belles finished second behind Big Brown. However, celebration quickly ended. Eight Belles collapsed on the track after finishing. She broke both of her front ankles and was euthanized immediately on site.
I couldn't help but feel sorry for the horse, who was trained and then forced to run in races. Did anyone else feel disgusted after the race, or is it simply the way things go sometimes?

I enjoy watching horse racing. Ever since I was a child, my family would watch all the horse races together and pick which horse we think will win the race. Our favorite part is when you get to watch the horses walk to the starting gate. You get to see the real beauty of these horses and it was fascinating. I didn't watch yesterdays Kentucky derby because I was not near a tv during the race, but I did talk to my mom about the race. When I heard that Eight Belles the filly died shortly after the race, I was sadden and couldn't believe the tragedy. I understand that sometimes it is difficult for a horse to recover from injuries, but having her die on the track was terrible. This is their field they live and race all the time here and to just die on their track is tragic. I don't think horse racing isn't for entertainment, yes people do gamble on the races, but I think horse racing is to show how beautiful horses can be and reflect on how some trainers are skilled in their ability to train a horse. From the excitement of horse racing to the tragedy of yesterday's Kentucky Derby, the sport of horse racing is a exciting sport filled with traditions.
