American Idol...Again...

As you may know, on Tuesday night Paula Abdul messed up while judging a contestant on American Idol. She mistakenly commented on the contestants previous song, however the contestant hadn't sung a previous song. This lead to a huge uproar among American Idol fans saying that Paula is on drugs, or she seems to be drunk during the show. To make things a little more interesting, host Ryan Seacrest announced to the audience that it was an honest mistake and any rumors about Paula are completely false.

I don't know about anyone else, but I really think this is pathetic. The show seems to provide the same old uproar each week. The best part of the entire show is the beginning of the show's series when we see the ‘crazy' people sing. Even in previous studies the audience ratings for the show are constantly dropping. I think it's about time to pull it off the air. I haven't heard one person talk about how spectacular a specific singer is this season. All the attention is turned to the judges and the host.

I agree that the American Idol phenomenon should be coming to an end soon. I am actually surprised it has lasted as many seasons as it has. Idol has definitely produced sensational talents, such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, but the time has come for hopeful singers to rely on their own talent again and not on reality television. I am personally burnt out from the numerous reality shows that are supposedly considered entertainment, but are really nothing more than a substitute for quality we have not seen in quite some time. The crazy antics of the hosts only fuel my desire to watch something else. I guess that is why the hosts do they things they do though because kind of like a car crash, it is just hard to turn away from watching.

I definitely agree that American Idol is becoming a joke. Not that it wasn't in the first place, but even more so now.

It has followed other shows and is strictly about the entertainment. If the show was strictly a singing competition, with talented singers, it might be okay.

With the focus on the judges, the show gets away from it's two decent singers. It will end soon, unless the millions of viewers who can't get enough continue to watch.

I agree as well. American Idol is definitely running it's course. The show is a great idea and was really great to watch in previous seasons but I feel like now it's not as much about the music and finding good singers as it is just finding the right American Idol. I think there is too much hype surrounding American Idol now for it to ever be what it was.
