3rd Graders Plan Attack on Teacher

After reading the news earlier today I found and interesting article about kids from and elementary school that brought weapons to class and planned to attack their teacher. The weapons included "a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape and other items for the job and assigning children tasks including covering the windows and cleaning up afterward." After the police looked into the case the kids said that they were upset because a few days prior the teacher had yelled at a student for standing on a chair.

I don't know what other people think about this situation, but I think this is absolutely ridiculous. I know when I was that young I never even thought about hurting a teacher let alone planning an entire attack on the teacher. Now maybe this was because I was most of the time the good quiet student when I was in elementary school, but what child learns that it is okay to harass and adult. In my personal opinion parents need to do a better job when raising their children, and this case certainly proves that.

I agree that this is an insane story. Anymore it seems that younger and younger children are involved in more violent crimes. It also seems that children are more likely to act out and not listen as well. I don't know if overall parenting styles have changed, but obviously whatever parenting styles this kid has, they are not working. First of all, he should not have had access to that many weapons, and he must have some severe anger problems to plan out such an attack. This should definitely be a wake up call for the parents and they are lucky nohing real serious happened.

I was disturbed by this story as well. I feel confident that no one in my third grade class ever had violent intentions for our teacher. This whole plot came about simply because one of the children was scolded by the teacher. Teaching is a hard enough profession without wondering if your students will soon be plotting your death. I guess this is project-based education in action.

I was dumbfounded when I read this story in the UDK. I can't imagine what kind of kid would be so offended by a teacher telling him to get off his chair. I didn't see anything in the story about punishment for the children involved in planning the attack, but I think serious consequences should be implemented. These kids are making serious decisions (however wrong they may be) and should be faced with serious repercussions. I agree with Brian that these parents are to blame. Discipline seems to be less and less important and almost frowned upon in society. It seems like spanking is bordering on child abuse these days. When nine elementary school children plan an elaborate attack on a teacher they need all the discipline they can get. This was not a childish idea to kneel behind someone and have someone else push them over backwards. This was a plot that was well thought out with malicious intent. You don't bring a steak knife to inflict a small cut on someone. These children should be dealt with to the full extent of the law and taught a lesson about the seriousness of their decisions.

That is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard. How in the world, would children ever think about doing this? If a teacher did that to me in elementary school, I was just draw a bad photo of them and write bad things about them. Not plot a way to kill my teacher. I think this happened is because violence is so prominent in the movies and TV. Kids today think that the best way to fix a situation is through anger and violence. I think that violence should be minimized in entertainment and in the schools they should teach the students other ways to get out their anger. I know minimizing the violence on TV will be heart breaking because it is entertaining to watch, but today children images of violence is shattered because they think it is no big deal. I hope that from this situation the 3rd graders learned their lesson and would never think to do this again.
