They was a story last week that created quite a buzz. Victoria's Secret CEO Sharen Turney came out and said that the company has become too sexy. She feels that they have lost their focus and have tried to become ultra sexy. She wants the company to refocus and focus on feminity more than sex. She mentioned in the article how the Pink collection has helped bring in the college age consumer. I think this is a good move for Victoria's Secret. This should bring in more customers because I think some women are intimidated to go in there because they do not want super sexy stuff. They just want to be comfortable while looking good. This is also a good move for youth culture because it will create and positive example for young girls. It will become a store that mothers would more likely take their daughters into and not think it was too racy and would give their daughters bad ideas. If this move works for Victoria's Secret than I bet other companies would follow suit. This could be the beginning of a good trend in our culture.

I thought this was an interesting story as well. I have often wondered if the people behind Victoria's Secret's catalog remembered that women actually look at them too. I think they have a very tough road ahead of them. It will not be easy to have sophistication be the first adjective to pop in one's head upon hearing Victoria's Secret. I think getting back to their roots could be a really good move for them as well. I think their current image can be a little intimidating for some women, so hopefully easing up on the sex appeal will create a wider audience once again.
I completely agree, I think this is a good move for Victoria's Secret. Ever since they came out with their Pink collection I've gone into the store a lot more. Victoria's Secret would appeal to alot more customers if they stopped being focused simply on sex. You said the article mentioned that the CEO said the company had lost their focus. This makes me wonder how the store started out. Was it originally trying to appeal to customers through sex appeal or through "femininity?" That's just something interesting to think about I guess.
I definitely agree that Victoria's Secret has become to sexy. Also... that is true that a lot of women probably feel intimidated when they walk in there. But worst of all, how many times have you walked in that store and seen creepy old guys walking around and having fantasies about women that most of us will never ever look like! I like to wear pink stuff and I think that if Vickies does get back to being about women instead of just enticing everybody then they will gain a lot out of it.
