Forget everything your mother ever told you. Well, at least when it comes to dairy. We've all been told to drink our milk, however, recently doctors are saying the opposite. Contrary to popular belief milk can cause cancer and food allergies. Apparently everyone should stop milking their diet.
The first problem is that whole milk can cause your cholesterol level to go up because it is so high in saturated fat. Secondly, many adults don't have the enzyme that can successfully digest lactose, which is the sugar found in milk. This intolerance to lactose can eventually cause diarrhea, gas, and bloating. Milk can also cause many food allergies. Not to mention the liquid substance sometimes still has antibiotics that were given to the animal before they were killed for food.
Dr. Robert Kradjian, an M.D. in California, goes so far as to recommend we eliminate dairy from our diets altogether. He believes that milk only hurts our health and the only reason we drink milk is because it has become such a big part of our culture.
Do you remember the Dairy Council's "Milk Your Diet: Lose Weight" campaign? Think about the last time you saw one of those commercials. Exactly. They campaign told everyone to drink 24 ounces of milk every 24 hours as a part of a "your reduced-calorie diet." According to Cancer Causes & Control, not only does drinking milk not help you lose weight, but it has been associated with prostate cancer, Parkinson's disease and acne in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Frank Oski even wrote a book dedicated to the discovery called, "Don't Drink Your Milk!: New Frightening Medical Facts About the World's Most Overrated Nutrient." For more information visit Dr. Kradjian's web site http://notmilk.com/kradjian.html

Ashley,
I read a portion of the Dr. Kradjian's article about milk's ill effects on human health. I don't know what to think about all of the back-and-forth medical news that either shows the benefits of a product or shows the negative side effects of the product; in this case the product is milk. The point is, what should one drink if one is yelled at for drinking soy milk by a friend, but then when drinking cow's milk another friend says that it causes other health risks. My suggestion to all is to drink, eat and exercise in moderation. Maybe our world is too focused on excess??? Drink your milk, eat your chocolate, and run your mile(s); live your life and try to be careful where you can, but also enjoy life with its various dangers and pleasures, both of which we cannot escape.
Great. After I took a big glass of milk this morning this is nice to know that milk really doesn't do anything other than hurt us. My question is how and why did we ever think that was milk was good for us in the first place? Everyone growing up was told to drink milk and how it was good for our bones.
Obviously cancer is a major problem in our current society and one more thing that might cause cancer is a great concern. But does this story try to point out bad types of milk, or is all types of milk? This topic has me at a loss for words.
I truly don't think that milk is bad for you. It is important for women to drink milk for calcium, and it truly does maintain bone strength. People who are lactose intollerant should probably stop drinking milk, and those who are concerned about drinking in pesticides and hormones - you can buy hormone-free and organic milk. Those with acne need to start drinking milk without acidophilus; that will help with their skin issues. There are studies out there to contradict everything. I happen to love milk and will continue to enjoy the heck out of it.
