Reporter (Lawrence, Kansas)
The Lawrence Journal-World is seeking a journalist to join its team of reporters. Qualifications include a curiosity about a wide range of topics, a desire to help residents better understand their community, a commitment to accuracy and fairness, and an understanding and adherence to the journalism code of ethics.
A multitude of beats exist in Lawrence and the surrounding area, including local and state government, public safety, education; business and consumer news, agriculture, the environment, technology and others. Our philosophy is to find talented journalists for our team, learn their strengths and areas of natural interest, then put them in a beat that gives them the best chance to use their talents.
While the position will include some feature assignments, journalists who are interested in covering only personality and entertainment-related topics need not apply. We want reporters to be able to cover a broad range of topics and expect them to grow into the role of public watchdogs who can participate in investigative and enterprise journalism.
We are open to receiving applications from both experienced journalists and recent graduates. Salary will depend on qualifications and experience. Applicants should have examples of published work to share and should be prepared to take a writing test.
The Journal-World operates the leading media website in our area and also publishes an award-winning daily newspaper. Between the two platforms, we serve more than 25,000 readers daily.
Applications must include a resume and three writing samples. Send to Managing Editor Kim Callahan at email@example.com For more information about the community and our journalism, please see ljworld.com
