Justin Henning works at the University of Kansas as the associate director of interactive media for KU’s central marketing office, Marketing Communications. In addition to teaching Journalism 560: Message Development, he also developed his own digital media-focused journalism elective (Journalism 500: Digital Marketing), which he teaches each spring.
Henning grew up a Jayhawk in Leawood, Kansas. After graduating from KU in 2003, he worked as a reporter for The Scranton Times-Tribune in Scranton, Pa., briefly before moving to West Palm Beach, Fla., to help manage online sports and hurricane coverage for palmbeachpost.com.
He returned to Lawrence in 2008 to work as a web developer for KU’s University Relations office, which later became Marketing Communications. In his roles with KU, Henning created the university’s first social media accounts, worked on the rollout of three new KU.edu homepage designs and oversaw the creation of a dedicated social media strategy for the university.
Today, Henning manages KU’s online web templates, social media accounts, strategy and online advertising. He holds two degrees from KU, including a BS in Journalism (news/info) and an MS in Journalism. He lives in Lawrence with his wife, Sarah, and their two children, Nate and Amalia.
