Posting Video to YouTube
Posting video to YouTube should be done sequentially for each story from the previous day’s newscast. Using your web browser, browse to http://tv.ku.edu. For each story from the previous day, right click (or Command-Click) on the video and choose “Save as Quicktime Movie.”
A dialog box will appear and ask where to save the video. Save the video to the desktop or a temporary folder that you will delete after you are finished posting.
Next, navigate to http://www.youtube.com and select “Log in” from the top menu bar.
You will be presented with a login screen. Type KUJHTV as the username. The password will be provided to you during your shift. If it has not been provided, please see the Multimedia Newsroom Coordinator for the Password.
Once you are logged in to youtube, you can start uploading video by pressing the upload link in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Fill in the title, description, tags & Video Category fields. The title should include “KUJH-TV News: story title.” You can use the tease as your description. After the tease please include the text, “For more on this story go to http://tv.ku.edu.” This should help direct traffic back to the KUJH-TV web site. Tags should include keywords relevant to the story. The Video Category should generally be “News & Politics.” Use your best judgment to choose a video category other than “News & Politics” when appropriate.
Next, select “choose options” in the “Date & Map Options” section. Fill in the Date recorded and the location. Location can generally just be Lawrence, KS unless you know the exact location where a story was filmed.
Click the “Upload Video” button to continue to the second step, uploading the actual video file. Click Browse and select the appropriate video file. Finally, click the “Upload Video” button to start the upload.
After the upload is complete you can click the “Upload button” in the upper right corner to start the process again. Continue until all stories for the previous day are posted.
After you have posted your stories, go to http://www.youtube.com/KUJHTV to review and make changes as necessary. It can take several minutes for YouTube to process each story before it is viewable. Please be patient.
Remember to delete the video files on your desktop or temporary location after you are finished.
