Exporting Video

Once you have completely finished editing your video project in Final Cut, be sure to close out of the Capture screen to begin the video exporting process. If your video is not completely finished you will simply want to save the file until you can finish working.

  1. Go to File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion.

  2. Click the Options button

  3. Under VIDEO, click on Settings and set the following:
    Compression type: H.264 compression
    Frame Rate: 15
    Key Frames: AUTOMATIC
    Compressor Quality: MEDIUM
    Data rate: Automatic
    All other settings stay the same.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Click on Size…Select Custom Size from the drop down… and set it to 240 x 180.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Under SOUND, click on Settings and set the following:
    Compressor: AAC
    Channels: Mono
    Rate: 32.000 khz
    Quality: Normal
    Target Bit Rate: 32
    If you find yourself on a machine that doesn’t have AAC as an option, these are the settings you need to use.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Your settings window should look like the screenshot below. What your settings window should look like before exporting

  10. Click OK. Save your video to the Desktop using the following format: Your initials or last name then a two word story slug. (For example:sw-SummerJobs.mov) Do not save your video directly to your memory stick, that can occasionally cause problems. Picture 1.png

  11. Click Save.

  12. Drag the .mov file from the Desktop to your memory stick. Always save a backup copy of your files. The Journalism School is not responsible for any lost data.
