Importing Images

Using Final Cut to create a slideshow is somewhat similar to editing video. Instead of using video clips, you’ll be using still images.

  1. Open Final Cut, set your scratch disk to your folder in Video Storage and save your project in the Video Storage drive (If you’ve forgotten how to set the scratch disks, check out the importing video tutorial).

  2. Once you’ve got Final Cut opened and your scratch disks set, you need to import your images. It’s best to import all of the images you are going to use before you start editing them and placing them in order. Go to File → Import → Files.

  3. The choose a file dialog box will open. Browse to the location of your image and click Choose.

  4. Your photo should appear in the browser window in the top-left corner of the Final Cut screen. Repeat step three until you’ve imported all of the clips you are going to use.

  5. Drag each one down to the timeline in the order you want them to appear. You can rearrange the photos by clicking and dragging them within the timeline.

  6. Once you’ve dragged a clip to the timeline, you can change the time length a given image will be displayed during the slideshow. Just move your cursor to the edge of the clip in the timeline until the arrow turns into a double-sided arrow. You can then click and drag the clip to the desired duration. In most cases, 3 seconds is enough time for each image. Remember that you don’t want people getting bored while watching your slideshow, so use your own judgement on what time works best for your images.
