Image Contrast

Sometimes your image just won’t look right. It may be a little too bright or a little too dark. Or it may be a little too red or a little too blue. If you think your image looks just fine the way it is, then you don’t need to mess with image adjustments. There are three techniques you can use to improve the appearance of your image.

  1. Click Image -> Adjustments -> Levels…

  2. In the Levels dialog box, there are several arrowheads that you can adjust to change the brightness of your image. Play around with all of the arrowheads to get a feel for what works best for your image.

  3. If adjusting the levels seems to work for your image, click OK. If adjusting the levels just makes your image look worse, click Cancel

  4. Click Image -> Adjustments -> Color Balance…

  5. In the Color Balance dialog box, there are three arrowheads that you can adjust to change the levels of Cyan, Red, Magenta, Green, Yellow, and Blue within your image. For example, if your image is a bit too red, then you’ll want to slide the top arrowhead slightly towards Cyan. Again, just play around with the colors to find what works best for your image.
