In-depth Stories
The TV reporters are responsible for
- Writing a print story of 750 words and a headline
- Finding at least three links that enhance the story
- Creating subheds to chunk the story
- Creating a video package
- Helping generate ideas for visual elements (such as a table, graph or still images)
- Suggesting a still frame to use for the story tease
The online producers are responsible for
- Working with the reporters and the web tech
- Helping generate ideas for multimedia content and extras
- Copy editing scripts and putting them into logical chunks
- Finding meaningful links to go with the story
- Helping write captions, headlines, subheds, and teases
- Creating extras, like slideshows, bites, graphs/charts, map, etc
- Uploading all web extras through the tv.ku.edu/admin interface
- Sketching a layout design describing the chunks of the story, where links will be, and where multimedia will go
- Coding the web stories (with some assistance from the Multimedia Newsroom Coordinator and/or the Web tech)
If your reporters have not given you a draft of the copy before their due date, you need to let the Multimedia Newsroom Coordinator know ASAP.
Deadlines
- Print story is due to the Online Producer 48 hours before story due date.
- Online Producers need to meet with the Multimedia Newsroom Coordinator before the due date to discuss the story layout. All materials are due to be uploaded to the tv.ku.edu/admin site by midnight on the story due date.
