Tease Image
Every story posted to tv.ku.edu will need a still image. When you publish the story, the still image will appear on the main page of the site along with the tease. You will need to do a little bit of hunting to find the still images.
Click on the Video Transfer icon on the desktop.

Enter your newsroom login and password and click OK(Need an image)
When the following box appears, click OK(Need and image)
You need to locate the file named with the slug of the story you’re trying to get a still image for.
You will want the VO (voice over) file and not the SOT (sound on tape) file.
Open the .avi file and play the video. Be sure to watch all of the video to find the still image that bests suits your story slug and tease. You can pause the video and use the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard to find the exact frame you want to capture.
When you’ve found the frame you want to use, press Shift+Apple+4 on the keyboard. Your arrow cursor should change into the crosshairs cursor.
With the crosshairs cursor, click and hold and drag to highlight your entire image (It’s best to highlight an extra half inch around your image just to be sure you capture the entire thing. You can always crop off the extra portions in Photoshop). When you’ve highlighted the portion you want to capture, simply release the mouse button. Your image is now saved on the desktop. It will have some generic name like Picture 1.
Find the image on your desktop and open the file in Photoshop.
Select the Crop Tool from the Tools pallette.

When you select the crop tool, the width and height boxes should appear at the top of your screen. Enter 240 px for the width and 180 px for the height. This constrains the proportions of your image to fit the standard tease image size for tv.ku.edu

Now you can click and drag the crop tool over your image to select the portion you want to use. Notice that the box you draw stays proportionately the same size. When you’ve finished drawing your box, the portion you want to keep will remain the same color, but all of the excess will be darkened.
If you want to move your drawn box you can simply click and hold in the box, and then drag it to your desired location.
You can also reextend or shrink the box by clicking and dragging on any of the box corners.
Once you’ve positioned the box exactly where you want it, press Return on the keyboard. This will Crop your image.
Now click on Filter -> Sharpen -> Sharpen
Click File -> Save for Web
In the Save for Web dialog box, click on the image in the upper right hand corner. Then select JPEG in the Preset settings box (Look at the image below to make sure you are changing the proper field).
Click Save
Save your image to the Desktop with the same name as the slug for the applicable story (For example, if the slug of the story is Gas leak cleanup, then the image file should be named gas-leak-cleanup.jpg). Once you’ve entered the proper name, click Save
You can leave the still image on the desktop for now. You will load the image later, when you get to the Adding Stories tutorial.
