Search TV Scripts

If you do not get the television scripts printed before the taping of the newscast, there is a good chance they will no longer be available in NewsRoom. After each newscast the television producer purges the cast, which automatically archives the cast. This means you’ll have to do a little extra work.

  1. Go to the archived scripts search page.

  2. Enter the date in the query field using the following format: 08-25-05

  3. Click Search.

  4. Look for the newscast producer’s name with the current date and cast time of 173000 (This is just fancy NewsRoom4 talk for 5:30 p.m. which is the time the newscast first airs). Click on the cast link to bring up all of the newscast stories for that day.

  5. View individual stories by using the navigation at the top of the page.

  6. Copy and paste the script into Text Edit to begin editing.

  7. A word of caution for anyone thinking this is a shortcut to manually typing the scripts after printing them off…If you are waiting for the television producer to purge the cast, this means that it is late in the afternoon. Reporters will not hang out in the newsroom waiting for your questions. You will also find that many times a reporter won’t transcribe their soundbites in NewsRoom4. You will want to make sure they do transcribe their soundbites before they leave. Because if they don’t, you will. And that’s more work for you.
