Adding Stories

Once you have finished retrieving your stories, finished editing your stories, included the appropriate links, created a still image, exported the television video for the web, and exported the television video for podcast then you are ready to add that story to tv.ku.edu.

  1. On the TV admin home page, click + Add under the stories category.

  2. Fill in the headline field (For help with headline writing check out the Headline Writing tutorial).

  3. Fill in the slug field (For help with slug writing check out the Slug Writing tutorial).

  4. Notice that the URL Slug field filled in automatically when you typed the headline (Do not change the URL Slug).

  5. In the date published field simply click the Today button.

  6. In the last updated field click Today for the date and click Now for the time.

  7. For the time being, you want to leave the Published box unchecked.

  8. Fill in the Tease field (For help with tease writing check out the Tease Writing tutorial).

  9. Paste your story text into the body field.

  10. You will upload your still image in the Photo field. First click Browse

  11. Browse to you file and click Open.

  12. In the Photo credit field, type the name of the reporter that shot the photo.

  13. In the Cutline field write a cutline for the photograph (For help with writing cutlines check out the Cutline Writing tutorial).

  14. In the Video field click Browse

  15. Browse to the QuickTime movie pertaining to that story and click Open. Remember that when uploading QuickTime movies, your movie files should end in .mov

  16. In the Vodcast field click Browse

  17. Browse to the QuickTime podcast pertaining to that story and click Open. Remember that when uploading QuickTime podcasts, your podcast files should end in .m4v

  18. In the Type> field click on the drop-down menu to select the type of story. For the three o’clock update select tease. For newscast stories select news. For sports stories select feature. For in-depth pieces select in-depth. For breaking news select breaking news, but make sure it’s actually breaking and not old.

  19. In the Source field click on the drop-down menu to select the source of the story.

  20. In the Location field click on the drop-down menu to select the location of the story.

  21. In the Category, Thread, Webx, Anchor, Reporter, TV producer, and Online producer fields select the applicable options in each field. To select more than one option hold down the Apple key while selecting the option. Once you’ve selected the option for a field, click the right add arrow. If you happen to select the wrong option, highlight it and click the left subtract arrow.

  22. In the External links section you will add any links that pertain to the story, but don’t really fit into the text of the story. In the Source field click on the drop-down menu to select the source of the link. Your link may not fit into any of the Source field options, so you may leave that blank.

  23. In the URL field fill in the address of the site you are linking to. Make sure this is the specific address of the page you want the user to see and not just the homepage of the site.

  24. In the Title field fill in the text for the link that you want the user to click on.

  25. In the Description field fill in the text that will pop up when the user scrolls over the clickable text.
