Adding Polls
As an online producer, you have the ability to create polls for stories. This is a privilege and should be taken seriously. You don’t want to put up joke polls on a serious news site. The polls add user interactivity to the story in a way that is entertaining and informative (Infotainment if you will). Polls should not be created for every story, instead, they should only be created when the story lends itself to a poll. Stories that involve attitudes, present a conflict, or naturally present two or more topics or ideas. Creating a poll is relatively easy, but after creating the poll you have to add it to a story.
Click on +Add in the Poll category.
Click on the Type drop-down menu and select news, sports, or other.
In the Title field enter a short description of the poll. It can be the same as the slug, but if the poll is tangetial to the story, make the title pertain to the poll.
In the Question field type the question you want the user to answer.
In the Date published field click on the Today button. In the Closing date field click on the mini calender and select the day 30 days after the Date published.
The TV admin system gives you three option fields by default. The option fields are where you will type your possible answers to the poll question. If you have more than three answers, fill out the first three options fields and click Save and continue editing. One new option field will appear. Continue this process for all of your answers.
If you accidentally click Save and continue after filling out all of the options fields, then an extra options field will appear. You can’t exit the poll with an empty options field. You have to delete the
0in the votes field and then click Save.Once your poll is created and you’ve saved it, go back to the Site Administration page and click on Change in the story category.
Scroll to, or search for, your story and click on the headline to open the story edit page.
Scroll to the poll category and click on the drop-down menu. Select the poll you want to add to the story and click the + add button.
Scroll to the bottom of the story edit page and click Save.
When you go to the published story page, your poll should appear in the sidebar on the right side of the page.
