Not really. The little bit I played around with Backfence didn't impress me a lot. I had hoped they would last longer and perhaps develop a stronger model. I would also still say that my argument for having a hyperlocal site exist under the umbrella of a news organization (or other local organization) strengthens the lasting power and content development of hyperlocal sites.

Have you looked at YourHub? It's a product of the Denver News Agency. The problem with YourHub, IMHO, like any site that relies on user-contrib content is that it relies are users contributing - and contributing on a regular, long-term basis. I haven't checked the YourHub sites lately, but I don't think they are THAT popular. Why should I feel compelled to contrib to yet ANOTHER web site. I got Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr, etc to keep up-to-date.

PS this font is too light. It's hard to read! :-)
