The Future of Media

In the future it seems likely that news will be more sensationalized. There will be more within the category of “if it bleeds it leads,” or the latest missing person. At the rate we are going now, there will be minimal news of actual value, and more celebrity scandal. People like Steven Colbert will be the prime news source for most of the country. At some point, the audiences will get fed up, and news will have to make over its image. Perhaps then, the real news will resurface.

Podcasts, YouTube and blogs will become big media outlets with the rapid rise in citizen journalism. As these citizen journalists come into mainstream media more and more, restrictions will emerge to censor their content just like television and print media today.

Advertising will erupt everywhere, and use every possible method to put out their strategic messages. Cell phones will be tapped into, and people will begin to get scrolling ads across their screens, or even pop-ups on their cell phone internet. Perhaps there will even be advertising on landline caller IDs to convey messages such as “this call brought to you by Old Navy.” iTunes will sell advertising space, so that every song purchased will be preceded by a commercial.

The rapid advancements in technology will change media as we know it. With these new happenings will come new headaches. Privacy will become a distant memory, and people will never be alone. Technology will track your every move so you can be shown the latest product best suited for you. The future of media with the change in technology will be completely different. Advertising and marketing will become more intrusive, and news quality will dwindle.
