Media as we will know it

Before starting any discussion on media, as we will know it in the future, it is necessary to consider essential questions such as how have the readers’ preference changed in recent years? How and in what form do they want to receive their news and so on.

In our opinion, the future of media is in the internet. We are on the cusp of experiencing a new age of technology, as we have experienced with programs such as Second Life and Twitter. Blogging is becoming increasingly popular and has created a place for citizen journalism to develop.

Life is so busy nowadays; people are forever on the lookout for ways to get news faster and in small bites instead of long news articles. Therefore, newspapers and TV news are fast becoming outdated and that is why people are turning to the net. We should also be able to get daily news items delivered to our cell phones so that we are constantly updated.

We also think that in terms of promoting our media, the most effective way to raise funds is through viral marketing, especially on social networks. Yet, like we learned in class, advertising on these social networks is not effective whatsoever therefore viral marketing needs to be interactive for any promotions to actually work. We also think the future of our media will best be supported by the new applications within Blogspot and social networking sites that allows peer to peer interaction.

After all this, you will not be faulted for wondering what else can man possibly invent. But I do not think we should underestimate man’s ability to fulfill even the most vague needs. Last I heard, a computer that can transmit your thoughts onto the screen, has been invented.
