Media is constantly evolving to adhere to the needs of the world. Its future, while unknown, will mirror the past. As Uncle Rick says, “History doesn’t repeat itself, it rhymes.” The media of the future will reflect the topics of today: global warming and other environment issues, new forms of fuel, healthcare, and social security. In today’s media these issues are not only discussed on typical “news” outlets, but also on everyday “talk” shows. Simran is living proof of this through her appearances on shows such as Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, and Martha Stewart. These discussions consist of “rough sketches” in search of solutions to these problems. In the future the prevention phase will be over and the “How will we fix this?” phase will begin.
The distribution of media will be primarily internet based. Currently having internet on cell-phones is a convenient feature. In the future it will be a necessity. This makes the demand to be constantly “plugged-in” greater. The excuse of being uninformed due to lack of internet access at all times will no longer be valid. Twitter and blogs will become the new medium of news, making TV and newspapers obsolete. These will lead to changes in the way we advertise. Advertisements on blogs will become more prevalent. On Twitter, advertisements will begin to accompany each “tweet” as if a certain product or service made that bit of information possible. Twitter will enable more specific advertisement which pertains to the specific “tweet”. The future of media is not the bleak abyss that some make it, but rather bright and full of endless opportunities.
