Cell Phone Advertising

Media is constantly evolving to adhere to the demands of the people. Looking at how media has evolved through history allows us to predict that the future possibilities are endless. Even the new types of media that we have learned in this class are incredible looking at what media used to be. The way in which we receive news, entertainment, and all other forms of media will all depend on the convenience of hand held media devices; cell phones, Blackberries, iPhones and the future devices that society will adapt to. So it should come as no surprise that the highly competitive world of advertising is looking to the cell phone as a new medium. "Companies are using text messages to notify customers of special deals and banner ads to sponsor items, such as ring tone downloads," noted Julie Ask, research director at Jupiter Research.  Not only is cell phone advertising direct it will be able to reach primary advertising demographics: the youth audience.

While this may seem like an excellent idea, every positive has its negatives.  Just as pop up advertising once seemed to be the answer to internet advertising, will cell phones fall to the same fate or will cell phone advertising be able to generate a positive message.   The question will be are cell phone subscribers ready to trade in their high bills for some direct advertising?
