The parking lot behind Bailey has a pothole that needs to be fixed. With the countless number of cars searching for a parking space after 5pm it is no surprise that a pothole this large is a safety hazard; not only to cars but students as well. With the Kansas weather taking its toll on the campus streets and parking lots, the pothole problem is getting worse by the day.
Alex Panagakos, a University of Kansas student taking a class at Bailey, has definitely seen the disadvantages to the pothole problem. “I was late for class one day and was in too big of a hurry to watch where I was stepping and rolled my ankle in the pothole. I already have a hard enough time making it to campus early and I shouldn’t have to be even more late to a class because of a messed up parking lot.”
The Facility Operations department is in charge of campus maintenance. The department head is Mike Lang and his phone number is (785) 864-1115. He was very responsive and eager to help make a safety change on campus. Lang stated, “The parking lot behind Bailey is slated to be redone this summer after the steam tunnel has been repaired.” When asked how long it would take to fix the problem he said that there should be no problem fixing a dangerous pothole as soon as his team has time.
Maybe the students on the University of Kansas campus will finally be accustomed to a safe parking lot before summer comes.

I have noticed this pothole on my way to class before. When I walked to class the other day I looked for it and noticed that someone put a huge rock inside of it, as if that helped! It's an even bigger hazard now!

I've taken my truck back there before, and there's a lot that needs fixed and smoothed out. I'm pretty tired of being knocked around in my vehicle because of these potholes. Not to even count all the alignments I had while living in Lawrence. Frustrating!
