Hobbs Park, which is located on 702 East 11th Street on the corner between Delaware and East 11th, is home to Municipal Stadium. This stadium, easily recognizable by its murals adorning its exterior, is home to a baseball / softball field that is the former home to the Lawrence Colts, a semi-pro baseball team.
The fence along the foul line is partly filled with chain link, but the great majority is not. This chain link fence not only prevents the baseball or softball from staying in the field so players will not have to chase the ball down, but it also prevents vehicles from being hit by stray balls. There is a small parking area within 15 feet of the west side fence, which is exposed and lacking chain link (as seen in the picture below). Also worrisome is the fence running along the south side of the park is completely exposed, with a street running alongside of it. There is a danger to cars in traffic of being hit by a stray ball.
Mark Hecker, the Parks and Maintenance who was reached at (785) 832-3454, says that the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is aware of the unlinked foul line fences and will fix them this spring With this, it should be fixed in time for when spring baseball and softball begins.

Thats a pretty serious piece of fence missing, especially for a baseball field that kids use. Even worse is the saftey threat it poses to both vehicles on the road, and the players on the field.

Although I can see this being a low priority on the list of things to fix for the city or anyone affiliated, I do think that it is important to solve because it is low in costs and preventing a possible accident is very important.
