I decided to go media free starting Friday night thinking that it would be an easy task. I don’t get many calls during the day and plus the Nebraska game ended up taking a good 5 hours of my Saturday. It helped that I live right next to my friends and if I needed to talk to them I could walk over to their place.
Being from Virginia, I never know if my family will call or e-mail, e-mail being the main way of communication because if something is forgotten during a conversation I can just e-mail them. Also, I listen to a live stream of a talk radio station on weeknights that I worked at in Virginia. There is no other way for me to listen to them unless it is through podcasts or on-line at their website.
Also being from out of state, I stay in touch with friends and siblings on AOL Instant Messenger. I use this as my main form of communication with people back home more so than a phone. Giving up my phone was probably the easiest thing to do, at times I do not get calls for a day or two at a time and I am one of the only people that does not have text messaging.
With this extra time on my hands I had watched a lot more television and spent more time out of my room and more hanging out with my roommates and other friends. It was tempting to go and check Facebook when at home and being near my computer. This was the hardest part, but having other people around takes the ease off. If I had to do this and I was living alone, it would be a lot harder.
