Fix Tuckaway

fix%20it%20alex.jpg
LAWRENCE, Kan- Tuckaway Apartments are a well known, reasonably priced apartment complex located on 6th street. All the apartments are well equipped with workout center. This is a wonderful option for students that wish to live off campus, but there is one minor downfall, unpainted speed bumps.

Paige Peeke, a resident of Tuckaway Apartments, commented about the speed bumps saying, "You know, I've gotten pretty used to them, but my friends that pick me up have said that they kind of sneak up on them."

When asked what she thought about painting them a more noticeable color she replied with, "It does seem logical to paint them another color. I mean, someone could do some damage to their car if they didn't know about them."

To find out if this problem could be changed I contacted Tuckaway maintenance. Jessica Stewart at (785) 838-3777, the maintenance supervisor explained, "The speed bumps used to be painted red, but the paint was too hard to maintain because it chipped. We thought we would try a different paint this time that wouldn't chip."

I explained that I felt the paint was deceiving and that it should be made a more obvious color. She replied by explaining that they were not scheduled to paint for a while, but next time they were they would consider my request.

Considering a request was not enough reassurance for me, but the maintenance at Tuckaway would not stray from that comment. It seems as though the speed bumps will remain inconspicuous until the next scheduled painting.

Bethany Black:

Tuckwaway really does need to fix those speedbumps. I have friends who live their and I always go flying over the speedbumps because they are impossible to notice. All they would need to do is put some paint on them which does not seem to difficult.

Jessica McMillan:

This is a good idea! I hate driving over speed bumps that you can't see. I have friends who have complained about this same parking lot.

Leonard Byrd:

I actually live at Tuckaway too, and when I first started to live there I always flew right over the speed bumps, and it damaged my car somewhat. Someone should talk to the management about seeing that those get painted bright yellow or something

Anne Slaughter:

This is such a great idea! I cant even tell you how many times I have sped over those bumps only to slam the front of my car into the pavement. This was a really clever idea and one that effects a countless number of people every day. I wonder what color they will decide to paint them. I think that the standard yellow would be best. Hope you get it fixed!
