The numerous potholes in the Yokohama parking lot on 1730 W. 23rd St. are massive and pose a significant danger to patrons of this Japanese restaurant. This is a problem because the potholes are huge and crater like, which makes driving in the parking lot a great risk for customers. “The potholes have been here since I took over in November of 2006,” said owner and chef Joseph Pyon.
The potholes create an uneven surface and can cause unwanted damage to cars. It is a great inconvenience and can be the source of many accidents. Jess Levy, a patron of Yokohama said “I feel the potholes are dangerous because I could fall and hurt myself or seriously damage my car.”
Patrons should be and are concerned about the danger that stems from a parking lot full of potholes. “I get really stressed out when coming here because of the potholes and limited parking,” said Levy. Pyon has noticed his customers dismay about the parking lot. “At times, people complain a lot. They tell me they love my restaurant and my food, but they hate my potholes. What I tell them is that I hate my potholes too,” said Pyon.
So, if this has been an obvious predicament from the beginning, why haven’t the potholes been fixed? “I tried to fix the potholes but the landlord would not support it. I was prepared to go fifty-fifty on the cost, but she would not do it. I’ve put hot asphalt in them, so it will be somewhat patched, but right now that is the best I can do,” said Pyon. Owner and chef Joseph Pyon has tried and attempted to fix the pothole problem, but so far his landlord will not help him repair it. Although, not all hope is lost. “I might be signing a new lease next spring, by that time I might have a new landlord. Or I might just buy the property and fix it myself,” said Pyon. Joseph Pyon can be reached at his restaurant by calling (785) 842-8862 or by visiting their site .
Potholes are a nuisance and drivers must use extreme caution when driving over them. When they are found all over a parking lot they pose great danger for car and driver and are a cause of accidents. “There are many accidents; I tell my customers to be careful,” said Pyon.

I've never been there but the potholes look like they can be serious trouble. I agree they've got to be fixed.

What a mess of a parking lot. It's too bad that the landlord cares so little about the area and customers. I hope Pyon can find a way to get around her, it's good to hear someone cares. Customers will stop being customers if they have to fork over money to fix their vehicle. Let's hope he can fix it!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Lawrence, but the potholes are absolutely terrible. Everytime I drive through that parking lot I have to slow my car way down, for fear of popping a tire or ruining my car.
This was a great idea for a fix-it project and I actually thought of doing this as mine! I really hope that they get fixed!
