LAWRENCE, Kan. The second bathroom stall from the left of the fourth floor of Watson Library could be hazardous. A sheet of metal has been placed on the side of the door. However, this metal is starting to come loose, creating a sharp edge near the door handle.
This dangerous metal edge does not seem to be sharp or harmful at a first appearance. This is in fact, why it is so dangerous. A University of Kansas student, Kelsey Hooker, can vouch for this danger. Upon entering the bathroom stall one day in the Watson restroom, Hooker sliced her hand open while pushing the door open on this metal edge. She then had to get seven stitches to heal her wound.
Maggie Brooke (785-864-3601) is in charge of making sure damages are taken care of at Watson Library. As of November 19, Brooke had not heard about this problem yet. She also stated that the amount of time before this problem is fixed depends on whether or not a part of the door needs to be replaced.
Realistically, this problem could occur on any of the bathroom stall doors in this bathroom. Students should take caution as they enter the restroom, as the damage is not noticeable.

I saw this when I was at study hours a few weeks ago! They really need to fix this, if someone can cut their hand that badly, it's a big problem. It is also really gross, who knows what kind of germs are all over the bathrooms and now in her hand. I didn't get cut, but I did see this. That's really dangerous and unsanitary.

I feel badly for that poor girl who cut her hand, and after that happened, you would think that the metal piece would have been immediately fixed. That is a problem when it has potential to hurt someone, so I hope that they get it fixed!

I checked out the door after hearing (through the grapevine) what happened to that girl's hand. I think it should be fixed immediately, especially since its in a bathroom... a place that is not exactly clean in the first place. This door just creates an unnecessary danger- it isn't obvious upon first glance but it shouldn't have to be. Potential risk of slicing your hand open isn't exactly the first thing on your mind when entering a bathroom stall... haha. It should just be fixed!
