LAWRENCE, Kan- For years the Corbin/GSP Residence Hall parking lot at 420 W. 11 St. has been plagued with pot holes. The deep holes make driving through the narrow driveway a challenge for both residence and bus drivers.
Unfortunately, for bus driver Charles Pirtle the Corbin/ GSP parking lot is a stop on the KU campus bus route. Pirtle explained, "The pot holes are really just a nuisance and they are hard on the buses," Although they are inconvenient, Pirtle was confident he had learned how to handle them.
The pot holes are problematic for bus drivers because the narrow driveway makes avoiding the pot holes impossible. In addition to bothering bus drivers, the pot holes affect Corbin/GSP residents because they have to drive over the pot holes everyday, which can take a tole on vehicles.
Fortunately, improvements are supposedly are on the way. According to the University's Parking and Transit Department's David Moore, there are plans to re-pave the Corbin/GSP parking lot on schedule for summer of 2008. He explained they will have to wait until summer for the convenience of the dorms' residents. The lot will need to be completely cleared out. "We want to get it done right," Moore explained. He agreed the pot hole filled parking lot was "unfortunate for buses." David Moore can be reached through the parking department at (785)864-7275.
Hopefully the pot holes will receive some much needed attention this sumer, but they have been ignored for years. A change would be appreciated.

I agree this really needs to be fixed! There is so much traffic in this parking lot on a daily basis that it should have been fixed a long time ago. Good story!

It is a shame that they have to wait until summer to fix that parking lot, because it has been really bad for a couple of years now. I lived at Corbin last year and driving over those holes did take a toll on my car. At least they are made aware of them now, and will fix them as soon as possible.
