Media is a very important part of modern day life. I have my phone with me at all times. I check facebook numerous times daily. Not having my cell phone was the biggest problem I encountered with the media free assignment.
I gave up all media from Saturday at 7 p.m. until Sunday at 7 p.m. I had the most difficult time with out my phone. I gave my boyfriend my friend's number so he could reach me, but unfortunately due to a very long game day he ended up losing his phone, making communication nearly impossible. I had to physically look for people if i wanted to talk to them, which was something I am not use to. Not using the computer was not a huge deal because I really only use my computer to check facebook, e-mail, and do homework.
I watched almost five and a half hours of Sex and the City dvds. After that I was feeling worthless so I did some homework I probably would not have done if I had been able to talk on the phone or look at the computer. Then I tried to convince myself to work out, but I absolutely cannot excercise with out my i-pod to motivate me the whole time.
Overall, not having media is an interesting experience because it made me realize how much I actually use it. The strangest thing I noticed about not having my cell phone was that I constantly look at it. I found myself grabbing for it numerous times throughout the day. Sometimes technology can make us too lazy, but things like cell phones and facebook help us communicate with one another. This made me realize how lonely I would be if I did not have these social tools to keep connected to the world at all times.
