There are a lot of thirsty student leaders at KU these days. The water fountain in the Student Involvement and Leadership (SILC) offices in the Kansas Union is broken.
The water fountain, located across the hall from the Alternative Breaks office, merely trickles water down the drain when the push button is pressed. No thirst is quenched by this water fountain.
While this problem may not carry the same level of potential consequences as a deep pothole or sharp edge, the importance of having a conveniently placed water fountain in the office shouldn't be overlooked. The nearest working water fountain (and bathroom) are on the opposite side of the Kansas Union. When students need a quick drink to sooth a dry throat, or need a gulp or two of water to wash down lunch, it's a 3 minute journey. This does not promote an efficient working environment.
The water fountain serves the 40 student groups and approximately 120 student leaders who work daily in the SILC offices. Aaron Quisenberry, Associate Director of the Student Involvement and Leadership Center (785-864-4861), assisted me in addressing this issue. On Monday November 12, I filed a maintenance request with Quisenberry. At that time, I was informed that the water fountain would be serviced during the Thanksgiving break holiday. "Numerous maintenance requests have been filed regarding various problems in the Kansas Union, and the majority of them would be serviced during the Thanksgiving holiday while there are fewer students in the building" Quisenberry said.
I will update this blog again after the break, hopefully with good news to report.

Many a time have I forgotten that that fountain doesn't work. It's kind of annoying having to trek so far to get a little sip of water if I'm working in the Student Senate office.

I'm glad you found this, there is no reason that all the tuition and money that goes to this University we should have broken water fountains. Especially outside of one of the offices that students are activley working in to improve the University and get students involved. I'm all for this let us know how it goes.

Adam, you know that I practically live at SILC, and this water fountain has been a problem for me too. I think it's awesome that you talked to Quiz about getting it fixed, and like you I will be watching and waiting to make sure that it gets repaired. Good work! :)
