How would you like to spend hours of your time collecting information from many different sources and make around eight dollars for every article you write? If you're the fastest writer on earth and spend only one hour writing each article, you are making approximately the same amount as fast food employees. Evidently, in-world journalists really love their jobs, because this is what they do for a living.
I can see few stories that would be relevant to the real world. All the reports of events and new metaverse companies are meaningless to those of us who have never "jacked in." Be that as it may, there is a huge demand for quality journalists in Second Life. 57 Miles, the Simon Cowell-like journalist from Metaversed, said he felt Metaversed had no competition in Second Life due to the lack of good writers from other companies.
Though there are job opportunities in Second Life for journalists, I find it hard to believe many of them will accept the meager wages one makes in-world. Until the gap between Linden Dollars and American Dollars lessens, the quality of writers will likely stay the same.
While I have no intentions of working in-world, it would be a good opportunity to hone your skills without a lot of public scrutiny. I know that other avatars will read what you write. Maybe they'll criticize you. But the huge amount of users will give you good feedback which is vital to any "newbie" journalist.
