Social Good of Facebook

When people think of Facebook most people usually think of it as a tool to connect with friends or as a place where people can stalk you without you knowing, often referred to as creepbooker’s in the Facebook world. But Facebook has lots of benefits besides keeping in touch with people that you haven’t seen since high school. A good example of this is in KU's network which is full of opportunities that can help the social good of our community.

While taking a look at KU's community I saw three events that would promote social good. The first is the B aware B there. This event is for people to learn about people with disabilities and it will provide information on how to help these people. So far nineteen people are attending the event which will be held on Tuesday night. The next event is through a Greek organization. It is the Kappa Alpha Theta Sun Run. The Sun Run helps out the Douglas County CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. These people are trained community volunteers that speak on behalf of abused and neglected children in Court. The last event is being held by a student. Brian Knisley is battling cancer and has gone through many treatments to help him. Now he wants his friends to try and help him out. He needs help paying off his medical bills. Old Chicago is donating a portion of their sales on Wednesday to help him out. Thirty six of his friends are attending.

The events that I listed are only a fraction of events that you can partake in that promote social good. Every university has groups out their like this that help support people or organizations at their school. Although Facebook may seem like a tool of entertainment, it can also be a social .
