Promoting Social Good on Facebook

Using Facebook to promote a social good is a lot harder than to promote a party. To find an event that did this I had to search on other friends events. I found an event that is for “Rock the Vote” that is a rally being promoted at James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia.

This event gives links to the JMU website as well as the Rock the Vote site. The JMU University Program Board shows the information about the event and confirms the guests that will be at this event and where it will be held. The event page on Facebook gives out this information, but being that it is a social site the creator of the event could put these names on the event to try and coax people into going to this event.

Using the event application it allows one to get the word out to their immediate friends. From these friends, they will be allowed to invite people if the event is open and allows others to invite them. They are not using a lot of applications of Facebook that it offers.

This event application seems to work well, but nothing is definitive when people respond to this. Most of the time people will confirm they will be at these events just because. There is also a choice to maybe attend and not attend. This is not a very reliable sense of figuring out how many people may show up to this event. Around 400 people have confirmed or maybe attending this event, but is this reliable count?
