Philanthropic Facebook Groups

A group on Facebook that I specifically joined because I believe in the cause is the "Save Darfur" group. It is designed to get young people to understand the horrible way of life the citizens of Darfur were going through. Each person that joins the group is supposed to buy a T-shirt. The money for the t-shirts went to the foundation helping the cause.
These philanthropic groups are a good thing to put on Facebook, because it is an easy and effective way to get a large amount of people to get involved. It is pretty well assumed that members of Facebook generally check it daily or often. These groups are an easy way to keep people posted on how the organization is doing. The Darfur group continually updates how much money has been raised. It is nice to see the progress of the Philanthropy as it comes along.
Another group, similar to the Darfur group, is the "Virginia Tech Shooting" group. This group is not specifically made to raise money, but is more of a memorial group. It is intended for Facebook members from all over the nation to join and post comments about their thoughts and feelings. It helps young people from all over to chat and grieve together.
These groups on Facebook are a kind of blog. Whether they raise money or just help people talk about their feelings, if it is for a good cause it is well worth the time spent on the internet.
