Live Earth

The Facebook cause that I researched was the Live Earth Alliance for Climate Protection because I think conservation is important and awareness is necessary to do this. The group, as of today, had 19,008 members, but had only accumulated $222. As I could tell, they had made no effort to market themselves through different facets available through Facebook to attract more donations which could reflect the low donation total. The group should be utilizing such things as the Facebook Flyer to advertise themselves and ask for donations which is the group’s main function for existence. The thing with this group is that they are endorsing and raising funds for an internationally renowned coalition, Live Earth, that already has so much press that maybe the reason for low donations is that people already felt saturated by news regarding Live Earth or had donated to other, similar causes for the environment.

The group did however, offer many informative videos on their website on issues such as factory farming and more generally, global warming. This gives the almost 20,000 members more access to the type of media which would incite passion in the cause, and ultimately cause them to donate money to said cause. The group is championing an issue which already has received tremendous exposure because of sponsorships with MSN and Chevrolet so they have an established base of supporters, they just need to utilize different marketing techniques available through Facebook to maximize their philanthropic potential.
