News from the Metaverse

Second Life contains in-world news that is not necessary in reality. Although there are some broadcasts that seem newsworthy, like presidential candidate speeches, however, these are spoken in reality and then put on Second Life. Warning signs and alerts seem more appropriate as a means to inform the public who are experiencing their Second Life. Instead of having news, Second Life simply needs someone to notify a larger group of events with a little pop-up.

There are many challenges faced when attempting to report in-world. A main challenge is sourcing. The trouble is finding people that you can use a source as well as the legitimacy of the source being questionable while reporting in-world. People residing in Second Life have the ability to completely change their identity with their avatars which can make it difficult for a reporter to get a valuable source.

News from Second Life does not supersede news from the real world because live feeds are not only broadcasted online but also the television. People can watch news from all around the world without having to step out of their homes. In-world news and real world news are just the same except one is fictional and one is real.
