The Playstation 3 was first available to the U.S. on November 17th 2006. So far there have been more than 4.28 million units sold.
The PS3 has tried to brand itself with having the most compatible consol with the best graphics. This is unlike it’s competitor the Nintendo Wii, who does not pride itself with realistic graphics. What sets PS 3 apart from it’s rivals is compatibility. You can play up to 97% of all PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3. Also, the PS3 is the only consol that has a Blu-ray disc drive. You can even charge some cell phones with it using the controller battery charger. Overall the gaming community has a positive response to the PS3.
The PS3 is much harder to play than your regular old Nintendo and it is much more expensive, retailing at about $500.00 dollars. Therefore, only dedicated gamers and the middle to upper class will spend this amount of money. The dedicated gamers are usually 20 to 35 year old males, who are well versed in technology. They probably spend a lot of time at home and would rather experience the world looking at a TV screen rather than first hand. The other group of people who buy these systems are teenage males who have a lot of money available to them. These kids are much like the dedicated gamers but less serious. They probably do not blog about the games everyday and mainly play sports games.
