Three Are Injured in a K-10 Collision

Three people were injured in an automobile accident today when the driver of a speeding SUV lost control of her vehicle near the intersection of K-10 and Edgerton road.

The driver of the SUV, 19-year-old Monique Lewis, was en route to Lawrence, Kan. where she had several classes to attend. Witnesses say that Lewis' Chevy Blazer started swerving erratically and slammed into the black Corolla a couple of yards in front of it.

Douglas County Sheriff Ken McGovern was the first to arrive on the scene. McGovern said he called for back-up and began to investigate the cause behind the accident.

"All three people in the Corolla were not responding, but Ms. Lewis jumped right out of the car and started screaming that she was going to be late for her journalism class and Uncle Rick would make her go in the other door," McGovern said, "We figured she was delirious and had to tranquilize her and take her to the hospital."

The Corolla passengers, who wish to remain anonymous, are all expected to make a full recovery. Sheriff McGovern cautions K-10 commuters to get enough sleep and drive carefully.

McGovern said, "If I find this 'Uncle Rick' Lewis was talking about, I would like to ask him what kind of pressure he is putting on his students to make them drive so recklessly."
