LAWRENCE, KAN. – K-U students are in an uproar over the K-U on Wheels buses. Students are having difficulties getting to class on time because the buses are continuously off schedule and late to the bus stops.
KU on wheels offers 12 bus routes that take students to and from campus, Monday through Friday while classes are in session. However, lately students have felt that the buses are more of an inconvenience rather than an actual convenience. Many students have complained about the unpunctuality of the buses, many times causing students to be tardy to class. One Overland Park senior stated, “The bus never shows up on time. I can not tell whether the bus is really late or just extremely early."
Students feel that the buses are very unreliable. Just last Wednesday one of a bus on route 24 ran out of gas leaving students stranded when a replacement bus never showed up. “I was 20 minutes late to class because I had to wait 45 minutes for another bus,” Said Sophomore Randy Cook. When Transit Commission, the governing body of KU on Wheels, was asked about the incident they replied, “We have a few kinks to work out, but as time goes on the buses will be running like a well oiled machine.” A few days later however, a bus turning onto 31st from Iowa broke down with student passengers waiting to get home. Apparently, the bus had a bad leak in the oil pan causing sever engine failure.
