Monday, August 20th, KU freshman Ryan Clutts interrupted students walking across Wescoe beach when he drove across the open sidewalk to park in Wescoe's third-level.
Clutts could not find any available parking places in the parking lots on campus, late for class, lost and desperate, the freshman drove down Jayhawk Boulevard and forced his car up the stairs on the north side of Wescoe hall to park in the building's covered walkway.
"I can't believe that ugly thing is supposed to be a school building. I'm not even, like, embarrassed," said Clutts.
Many students this semester have had difficulty finding parking, as school began. The school newspaper's comic strips have openly poked fun at the less than ample parking available. However most students found other solutions to the dilemma.
Clutts, new to the campus, believed Wescoe hall to be a parking garage. Clutts' car barely fit inside the crevice in Wescoe's third floor; however, tow trucks could not reach the car to pull it out. The freshman was therefore only given a ticket, and a harsh warning.
Although the car's presence was a disturbance to some students and faculty, most were too pre-occupied with their new school schedules to notice. Many students that had noticed the car cheered as the freshman pulled his vehicle out of the make-shift garage at the end of his classes. In his confusion Clutts also went on to attend Brother Jed's sermon on Wescoe beach, mistaking the preacher for his ethics professor.
