MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Republican presidential candidate formerly known as Fred Thompson legally changed his name to Roland Reagle on Friday afternoon.
Reagle served two terms as senator for the state of Tennessee from 1994 to 2003 and is well known for his acting on the popular television show Roseanne on the critically renowned episode "Let's Call It Quits" in 1989.
Critics say that this sudden action is being done to draw more votes in the 2008 election by drawing parallels to Ronald Reagan. Both Reagan and Reagle are republicans that were also actors previous to their presidential bids.
"My new name has nothing to do with president Reagan," said Reagle, wearing a wig dyed black with slicked back hair. "How could I be elected president with a name as boring as Fred Thompson? I need a name that is distinguished, electable, and, most importantly, alliterative."
Reagle's politically-charged name change is not unprecedented. In 2003, a democratic candidate took no chances with subtlety when he changed his name to Jay Efkay, feeling that John F. Kerry wasn't close enough to John F. Kennedy.

This story is hilarious!! I love it. Somehow all stories making fun of presidential candidates turn out to be funny... at least when they're as well written as yours. Make sure you write your lead shorter though. Journalism teachers can be dic... -- well, you know -- when it comes to that.
